NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has come into existence from Friday,replacing the Medical Council of India (MCI), as the countrys apex regulator of medical education and profession.As the NMC comes into being, the Board of Governors (BoG) which superseded the MCI in September 2018 has been dissolved and the 64-year-old Indian Medical Council Act has been abolished. Dr Suresh Chandra Sharma,former head of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences ENT department, has been appointed as the chairman for three years with effect from Friday. Rakesh Kumar Vats, who was Secretary General in the Board of Governors of the MCI, has been appointed as the secretary of the commission… (ET Healthworld – PTI, September 26, 2020)...
