The United States has authorised the use of the nations first Covid-19 vaccine on December 11. Inoculations could begin in less than 24 hours, said the President, Donald Trump.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted an emergency use authorisation for the vaccine, developed with German partner BioNTech. According to the FDA, this vaccine can be given to people aged 16 years or more. The main recipients are likely to be healthcare workers and elderly people in long-term care facilities in the first round of 2.9 million doses.
