Dr. Randeep Guleria, a member of the national task force, said that the virus had undergone many mutations at the rate of an average of two per month. These mutations do not warrant unnecessary concern, but preparedness to tackle it.
Dr. Guleria, the director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, has said, "the mutations have not led to any change in symptoms and the treatment strategy. According to the current data, the vaccines in the trial phase should also be effective against the new (UK) strain,"
He also said that on international flights, particularly those from the UK should ensure gene sequencing of at least 10% of the flyers testing positive after Indias arrival.
