K Vijay Raghavan, the governments Principal Scientific Advisor, has said that the third COVID wave is inevitable in India.

Addressing the media during the health ministrys briefing on the COVID-19 situation in the country, Raghavan said that a third wave is imminent, considering the high levels of circulating virus; however, it is not known on what time scale the third wave will occur. He added that we should be prepared for new waves. 

The officials also stated that the long COVID wave of such intensity that India is currently experiencing was not predicted.

The health ministry mentioned that 12 states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and UP, have over 1 lakh active COVID-19 cases. The country has been reporting more than 3 lakh daily cases for around two weeks now… (ET Healthworld – Timesofindia.com, May 6, 2021)
