According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the highly transmissible Delta variant of COVID-19 is going to become the dominant strain of the virus in the coming months.
The Delta variant has now been reported from 124 territories and is accountable for over three-quarters of the sequenced samples in several countries, noted the WHO. The agency said that the variant will likely outclass other variants soon and become the dominant lineage in the coming months. Among the other variants of concern (VOCs), Alpha, first identified in Britain, has been reported in 180 territories, Beta, first detected in South Africa, in 130 territories and Gamma, first found in Brazil, has been recorded in 78 territories… (ET Healthworld – AFP, July 22, 2021)
