While the overall COVID-19 positivity rate has been below 3% for more than a month now, Kerala, Manipur, Rajasthan, Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya continue to have large number of districts reporting weekly positivity rate significantly over 10%. The Center is concerned that this may incite the next wave of COVID-19 if there are no strict micro-level containment measures.
These states are also among the leading states in the country, besides Maharashtra, that have seen a rise in active cases. Forty seven districts have a positivity rate of over 10%, and 55 have it between 5 and 10%, suggest data from July 14-20. Jaisalmer, Rajasthan has the highest positivity rate of more than 41%. In Rajasthan, Sawai Madhopur, Baran, Jhalawar, Tonk and Rajsamand also have high positivity. Kerala has nine districts with a high positivity rate, including Mallapuram, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Palakkad and Thrissur. In Sikkim’s South District and Kohima in Nagaland, the positivity rate is over 30%.
These states have been advised by the Central government to focus on aggressive testing and containment measures.
