July 28 is observed worldwide as World Hepatitis Day every year. The aim is to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, which is an inflammation of the liver that can lead to severe liver disease and eventually to hepatocellular cancer.
The theme for the day this year is “Hepatitis can’t wait”. It emphasizes the need for urgent efforts to eliminate hepatitis as a public health threat by the year 2030. One person is dying every 30 seconds due to hepatitis-related illness, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, there is no time to wait for acting on viral hepatitis.
On July 28, 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) is hosting a global talk show where global, regional and national leaders, policy makers, communities and other stakeholders can talk about the opportunities for ramping up hepatitis response in order to eliminate it by 2030… (WHO)
