WHO global strategy 2016-2020 mentions that, “meaningful engagement of all stakeholders, including involvement of…private providers (read dermatologists) is still limited in leprosy.”
“Dermatology community” is the major shareholder of leprosy care.
Interest for leprosy services is alive and ‘leprosy’ is still commonly seen.
Slit skin smear services are not easily available to a private dermatologist.
Thalidomide availability is the area of concern for dermatologist.
Rehabilitation and physiotherapy related services also needs strengthening.
Majority of dermatologist believe in extending MDT duration beyond WHO protocol on case-to-case basis.
Availability of splints and access to deformity correction surgery is limited.
