  • WHO global strategy 2016-2020 mentions that, “meaningful engagement of all stakeholders, including involvement of…private providers (read dermatologists) is still limited in leprosy.”
  • “Dermatology community” is the major shareholder of leprosy care.
  • Interest for leprosy services is alive and ‘leprosy’ is still commonly seen.
  • Slit skin smear services are not easily available to a private dermatologist.
  • Thalidomide availability is the area of concern for dermatologist.
  • Rehabilitation and physiotherapy related services also needs strengthening.
  • Majority of dermatologist believe in extending MDT duration beyond WHO protocol on case-to-case basis.
  • Availability of splints and access to deformity correction surgery is limited.
